What’s so special about DT50™ amplifiers?

A lot. The amps offer Line 6 HD modeling technology that integrates deeply with tube guru Reinhold Bogner’s most flexible tube design. This produces four different celebrated amplifier voicings with pure simplicity and incredible power. The straightforward, two-channel design lets you dial in your tone with ease and get full analog and digital reconfiguration with the flick of a switch.

What are amplifier voicings?

Every amplifier has a voicing, which is the foundation of its tone. Voicings are usually described like “classic American clean” or “chimey English tone.” DT50 amplifiers can produce four historic and hugely popular amp voicings: classic American clean, chimey and crunchy English tones and modern high-gain distortion with all the character, detail and nuance that made them famous.

Each DT50 voicing is the perfect recipe of dynamic analog circuitry (which includes tube configuration and negative feedback loop topology) and HD amp modeling technology (which fuels the preamp and tone stack).

  • Voicing I: American clean. High amount of negative feedback for a tight sound that’s reminiscent of 60s-style American cleans.
  • Voicing II: English crunch. Medium amount of negative feedback for a looser tone that echoes classic English breakup.
  • Voicing III: English chime. Zero negative feedback for an open, dynamic feel.
  • Voicing IV: Modern high-gain. Low amount of negative feedback (and added low-frequency resonance).

DT50/DT25 v2.0 firmware lets you create original amp tones by pairing your choice of 30 HD preamps with any combination of dynamic topologies (negative feedback loop, operating class, power tube mode and more) within Reinhold Bogner’s reconfigurable tube power amp.

What are the switchable analog components?

Operating class (Class A/Class AB) and power tube mode (Pentode/Triode).

  • Class A - Switched to Class A, DT50 runs at 25 watts and is cathode biased. The feel is open and dynamic with greater touch sensitivity.
  • Class AB - Switched to Class AB, DT50 runs at 50 watts and is fixed biased. This produces a tighter feel with more headroom, which is perfect for louder clean tones.
  • Pentode - Big, loud and clear for commanding tones.
  • Triode - Quieter, rounder and darker with a more vintage-style sound.

Can I mix and match voicings and analog components?

Yes! You can align the voicings and analog components to create the most authentic tones, hear what your favorite English Class AB amp sounds like in Class A, or find your own unique combinations.

How do HD modeling technology and tubes work together?

Each one adapts and adjusts based on what the other is doing. For example, at high volumes the HD amp modeling technology “backs off” to allow for the natural power-tube distortion to take over and color the tone. At low volumes, the opposite happens. As a result, DT50 yields outstanding “sweet spot” tone at all volume levels.

What was Reinhold Bogner’s role in designing DT50 amps?

Tube guru Reinhold Bogner played a major role in the design of DT50 amplifiers. The supremely flexible and powerful tube sections could not have been achieved without his experience, expertise and incredible creativity. In Reinhold’s own words, “This is not a toy.”

How are the two channels voiced? Clean and dirty?

Both channels are voiced the same so you have total control over your tone, and complete one-touch analog and digital reconfiguration. Any combination of voicing, operating class and power tube mode can be saved to either channel. You’re not limited to just “clean” and “dirty” – you can have whatever you want.

What’s low-power mode?

Perfect for recording or quieter gigs, low-power mode lets the HD modeling technology provide both preamp and power amp tones. You can perform with all the grit and gain you need without the volume that normally comes with it.

What’s L6 LINK™?

DT50 amplifiers and POD® HD multi-effect pedals don’t just connect, they integrate via L6 LINK technology. Here are a few advantages of connecting via L6 LINK:

  • Selecting a POD HD preset automatically optimizes DT50 analog components
  • DT50 takes full advantage of the POD HD amp models and M-class effects
  • Changing tone settings on one updates the other
  • Edit POD HD tones simply by turning DT50 knobs
  • Easily create stereo or wet/dry settings. Daisy-chain amps with standard XLR cables and POD HD will do the rest

Is there an FX loop?

Yes! Effect pedals love DT50. Connect them via the serial effect loop and dial in the perfect amount with the adjustable return level.

Can I control amp functions with MIDI?

You sure can. Integrate DT50 into your MIDI rig (via the MIDI in/out jacks) and control amp parameters from channel switching on up, or pass MIDI through the amp from your POD HD multi-effect pedal.
