Psychedelic Fury

Probably best known for the definitive 80s track “Pretty in Pink,” the Psychedelic Furs are still going strong and setting trends after more than 20 years. They just recently finished the Inland Invasion tour, where they played with fellow 80s-era bands as well as today’s rising talent. Guitarist John Ashton has been a big fan of Line 6 since the beginning, and POD, Vetta II, and Variax have been part of his rig since he first plugged in. Recently, we had a chance to sit down and ask John a few questions about his favorite gear. Here’s what he had to say:

Where did you first hear about Line 6?
I bought an original "POD" when they first came out in 1998 or 1999. I thought the concept was really cool. I just had to have one. It still gets a lot of use in the studio. It's still really cool!

What Line 6 gear are you using and how are you using it?
I bought a Variax for the same reasons I bought a POD. It's a truly unique vision that has stunning realism and clarity. In the studio it allows me to create an arsenal of tones and colors On stage it allows me to replicate them. I can now achieve an endless variety of tones and styles that are all available from a very well made and playable guitar. Adding the Vetta II allows me to create, save and recall complex amp tones, guitar types, pick-ups and effects – and combinations are all easily recalled by the FBV. An endless barrage of aural gratification! Simple, Intuitive, Brilliant!

How have our products changed the way you work?
Line 6 has made a groundbreaking change to the way I play live and in the studio.

What are your favorite settings on the gear you use and why?
All my settings are an edited combination of amps and effects models - all available in the Vetta II and on the Variax.

What would you like to see Line 6 make in the future to help meet your needs?
A floorboard-only version of the Vetta II. I'd like to be able to carry my rig under my arm. Oh! That's in the works? Great!

Any final comments?
If it's in your head express it.
If it's in your heart, share it.
Create, express, evolve. Save.
